Ultrasonic waves can propagate in gases, liquids and solids. But the acoustic impedance of ultrasonic waves propagating in different media is different. The same kind of ultrasonic sensor generally can not be used in different media. Because the difference in acoustic impedance of different media is very large. We can realize the detection of air bubbles in liquid pipelines by taking advantage of this characteristic of ultrasonic waves.
Figure 1.The application of ultrasonic bubble detector used in infusion pump
In many fields that need liquid delivery, the monitoring of air bubbles is very necessary. For example, if air bubbles appear in the infusion line during intravenous infusion, they can have a negative impact on the patient if they enter the body. When the air bubbles are larger than 5ml, they can even cause death. With the development of technology and the continuous improvement of medical devices, ultrasonic bubble detectors are now usually included in infusion pumps to ensure the safety of patients. The methods of detecting bubbles in the infusion line are capacitive, photoelectric, and ultrasonic. Capacitive bubble detectors are susceptible to circuit interference and are very unstable. Photoelectric bubble detector is sensitive to the color of the medium, so the difference between liquid column and bubble is not obvious. Ultrasonic bubble detector is the use of ultrasound in the liquid and gas in the difference in acoustic impedance to achieve the purpose of liquid and gas identification. It is almost independent of other factors. The liquid color, transparency and the cleanliness of the outer wall of the tube does not influence the ultrasonic bubble detector accuracy. Ultrasonic bubble detector technology is also now relatively mature and is widely used in medical products.

Siansonic Technology is a national high-tech enterprise that develops, manufactures and sells products based on piezoelectric and ultrasonic technologies. Siansonic's unique non-contact ultrasonic bubble detector are widely used for infusion bubble detection in medical fluid delivery fields such as infusion pumps, dialysis machines, and in-vitro diagnostic instruments. Siansonic Technology also provides products and solutions for other industrial fluid delivery fields such as such as filling, printing, oil delivery, etc. Siansonic's ultrasonic bubble detectors can be adapted to all major fluid delivery lines and materials, OEM customization services are also available. We support pipeline diameters from 2mm to 30mm and the tube can be made of plastics such as PP, PVC, silicone, PTFE, PFA, etc., as well as metals stainless steel, titanium alloy, and high hardness materials such as glass and ceramic.
